The double-membrane three-compartment electrochemical reaction system consists of a cathode compartment, an anode compartment and a buffer compartment sandwiched between the anode and cathode. It is applicable to systems where anodic and cathodic ions tend to interfere with each other, as the buffer compartment can isolate anodic ions from cathodic ions.
