Microchannel electrochemical reactors feature advantages such as short inter-electrode distance and continuous reaction capability. The short inter-electrode distance offers benefits including low operating voltage and reduced or even zero electrolyte consumption. The continuous reaction mode eliminates back-mixing of materials, thereby preventing over-oxidation or over-reduction of products and improving product yield. In addition, microchannel electrochemical reactors are characterized by precise temperature control and rapid mass transfer. Under extremely small inter-electrode distances, special coupled redox reactions can also be achieved.
